What trolling motors can be upgraded with the Re-Action® System?

The Re-Action® System upgrade is available for the Minn Kota® Maxxum™ and Maxxum Pro™ model years 2004 and newer. The Re-Action® System Garland switch is available for these models and model years.

The Garland switch is a foot switch that is installed so the angler can switch between Re-Action® and momentary modes on the fly, without having to bend over and click the momentary/constant switch on the bottom left-hand side of the motor.

How does the Re-Action® System connect to my trolling motor?

The Re-Action® System components are installed directly into your existing Maxxum™ or Maxxum Pro™ foot pedal by an authorized Re-Action® System service center. Most of the work is done inside the foot pedal but you will see two new switches and one new dial on the outside of the foot pedal.

How does the Re-Action® System Work?

  1. Turn the Re-Action® System switch to 'on'.
  2. With the momentary/constant switch in the 'momentary' position, set the main throttle (low range speed setting) for holding the boat position, crawling/casting along a shoreline or trolling.
  3. Click the Garland switch once to activate the main throttle low speed setting.
  4. Set the Compensating Throttle (high range speed setting) to compensate for wind gusts or river currents.
  5. To fight back against wind gusts or water currents, or to 'bump' ahead, press and hold the foot pedal tap switch (momentary switch) and the trolling motor instantly speeds up to the selected compensation speed. The Re-Action® occurs within a half second.
  6. When the gust of wind subsides or the boat is in the desired position, release the tap switch to return to the previous main throttle speed setting.
  7. To stop the motor or return to momentary mode, a simple press of the Garland Switch will do the trick. To return back to the Re-Action® mode, press the Garland Switch again and the trolling motor returns to the low speed crawl or troll and the Re-Action® mode.

The benefits for cable steer operators are outstanding:

  • Incredible boat control in windy conditions and in water current with instant compensation.
  • Elimination of the cavitation or propeller blast associated with momentary operation.
  • Significantly less time married to the foot pedal.
  • Twice the running time from your trolling motor batteries.
  • Reduced stress and longer life of your trolling motor, mounting brackets and deployment hardware.
  • Now you have the best features of momentary and constant on modes combined into the 'Re-Action® Mode'and 5x better boat control!

'The Re-Action® System allows me to increase power by simply holding my tap switch down with my heel and turning with the ball of my foot at the same time. Now I can keep my boat where I want without being distracted by having to constantly adjust my throttle."'
